Ochsner Heat Pump Technology

The 310 Air

When we came up with the idea of a combination space heat & hot water heat pump, we knew like every other heat pump manufacturer that controlling the compressor was key to efficiency & longevity. Partnering with Ochsner heat pumps in Austria brought 50 years of heat pump compressor know-how to the UK & give our customers the reassurance that the 310 Air heat pump does exactly what it says it will.

We know that when specified & installed correctly, the 310 Air will hum quietly providing its owners low carbon heat & hot water for many, many years whether you are at ground level or ten stories up, you can rest assured that in the event of a fault, the heat pumps are interchangeable, with no loss of space heat or hot water using onboard electric back up.

In depth

  • With 24 combinations of left/right-handed hydraulic connections. This provides designers & installers with numerous options to ensure uncomplicated & neat installations.

  • Two 160mm insulated ducts from an external wall / roof provides the 310 Air with all the energy required down to -8 deg C.

  • Once filled with water & connected to power, all that is required to commission, is to turn the 310 Air on. It’s delivered pre-configured & works from the box.

  • Bivalent control comes as standard. We know that extra visitors require more heat & hot water, the 310 Air will look after this without extra setup or by pressing buttons.

  • Homeowners or tenants can decide how warm they want their home or how long to shower to have control of these bills, the 310 Air looks after itself.

Gas is no longer the convenient solution it once was to provide space heat & hot water, we see all around us the impact of burning fossil fuels is having on the environment.

Direct electric heaters & electric showers no longer pass UK building regulations unless complicated/expensive mitigating designs are employed, however clever these solutions may be, they still leave the owners/tenants with increasingly large electricity bills and carbon footprint.

All traditional heat pump solutions use an external box that requires additional design/compromises to make them work with any given building project, which is why we knew that an internal system was the only solution that has taken 6 years to design & launch.

The 310 Air is simple to understand, it occupies 0.5m2 of floor area & requires no special training or installation. Once filled with water and to power, it will simply hum into life & will never require further interaction. Space heating controls simply take the heat from the 310 Air to the heat emitters to keep the home warm, the hot water requires no interaction. All these features are on purpose, life is complicated enough already & bombarded with information. We opted to make the 310 Air simple & easy.

We want to see the 310 Air installed in efficient well insulated homes that use MVHR systems to bring the heat load down rather than window trickle vents. We should all be using showers & taps that comply with the latest building regulations to conserve water use, rather than blindly installing sanitary ware that have no flow restrictions. We also know that there are instances when extra space heat or hot water be required, so the 310 Air automatically brings on one or two small titanium heaters to assist as a short boost to either space heating or hot water depending on load, with them turning off early to allow the heat pump to always provide the majority of the heat load.

As with all heat pump installations, we too recommend that designers & builders ensure that a full set of heat loss calculations are generated to fully understand what the impact of other technologies such as MVHR have on the heat load of a home & the likely energy usage. In combination with low flow showers, designers & builders become part of the solution to help bring down the cost of living & making life affordable.
